Borehole Maintenance and Servicing

Once a borehole has been established and working there is, in general, is little to do with regard maintenance. The Pumps we use are well known for their longevity and should give at least 10 -15 years of trouble-free abstraction.

If filtration is required for one reason or another this might require annual maintenance with replacement filters and a brief check of the system. The UV systems for bacteria require annual bulb replacement as might some of the particulate filters require new filters.

Other problems can sometimes occur with perhaps iron bacteria. Iron bacteria are small living organisms that naturally occur in soil, shallow groundwater, and surface waters. These bacteria combine iron (or manganese) and oxygen to form deposits of "rust," bacterial cells, and a slimy residue that sticks the bacteria in well pipes, pumps, and plumbing fixtures.

It looks worse than it is and there are no immediate health problems associated with the presence of Iron bacteria but it can cause odours, corrode plumbing equipment, reduce well yields (clog screens and pipes) and increase chances of sulphur bacteria infestation.

There is treatment available for this problem which we can do.
